Road-tripping to Rocky!

Happy Friday all! This week seemed to fly by- hope it did for you too!

We are road-tripping to Philadelphia tomorrow morning for the marathon on Sunday! I will be watching the race/running part of it with my sister and cousin. Just like old times.

Maybe we will see Hal Higdon at the Philly marathon expo like we did in 2011. And at the Chicago marathon expo in 2013! #runningcelebs

Mark and I are flying home on Sunday, so we only get to participate in a one-way road trip. We will be making the most of ours tomorrow! According to Buzzfeed, these are the top 10 songs you need for a road trip:

  1. Home” — Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
  2. Chasing Cars” — Snow Patrol
  3. Hit the Road, Jack” — Ray Charles
  4. No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn” — The Beastie Boys
  5. Interstate Love Song” — Stone Temple Pilots
  6. Runnin’ Down a Dream” — Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
  7. The Distance” — Cake
  8. I Ran (So Far Away)” — Flock of Seagulls
  9. Where the Streets Have No Name” — U2
  10. Fun, Fun, Fun” — The Beach Boys

In the spirit of Philly marathon, we will also be playing the Rocky theme song on repeat!

What are your favorite road trip songs?

Anyone follow Hal Higdon’s marathon training plans?

Anyone racing this weekend? Other weekend plans?

-If so, good luck! Let me know how it goes. Good luck to all Philadelphia Marathon Runners! I will keep you posted on the weekend’s events.

I’m with you on Ray Charles and The Beach Boys, but I’ll need to bow to your judgment on the other top tunes. What: Nothing by Gustav Mahler?

Hey there, Hal! I have to admit: I like my road-tripping songs to be upbeat, just like my running playlist. Thank you for the suggestion though! We will miss you at the Philly expo this year!
Thank you for all of your fabulous marathon/half marathon training plans, your running tips, and for being such an inspiration to all of us runners! We have all learned a great deal from you. Happy running!

I’ve used a couple of Hal Higdon plans and still follow the underlying concepts and the base distance of the intermediate one when I draft a new training cycle…road trip songs, we really mix it up…my wife is one of Michael Buble’s 10 million biggest fans and I sprinkle in selections from Metallica, AC/DC, and Def Leppard and we both like a big dose of the eighties and Queen…our go to songs on our last 2 Hawaii vacations were In the Ayer from Flo Rida and All About the Bass by Meghan Trainor , so we have quite a variation to say the least! Have a great road trip race weekend in Philly!!

      1. For the 50k I’m using this -> https://kalhaventrailrun.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/kal-haven-trail-training-plan-2014.pdf That was the training plan for my first ultra. I’m a bit behind for my race in January, but it’s not a real important race on my schedule, just something fun to keep me training through the end of the year.
